Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij has reportedly opted to join Inter Milan.
Stefan de Vrij is available on a free transfer at the end of this season after confirming that he will not sign a new contract at Lazio , leading to a rush from a number of top European clubs for his signature.
Liverpool were understood to be keen to pair De Vrij with his international teammate Virgil van Dijk at the heart of their defence, whereas Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho had considered him as an option in his expected defensive overhaul.
Man City were also looking at the Dutchman as further cover for the injury-prone Vincent Kompany, while Barcelona were among the other clubs to have been credited with an interest.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport claims that De Vrij has instead decided to stay in Italy and will join Inter when his contract officially expires this summer.
Gazzetta claim the pursuit of De Vrij started a year ago and that Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has never lost sight of the defender.
De Vrij will earn just over £70,000 a week in Milan on a five-year contract that is yet to be signed.
