Corpers in Enugu state might have a reason to smile as the Governor of the state has pledged to increase their allowances.

Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has pledged the willingness of his administration to upgrade allowances of members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state.
Ugwuanyi made the disclosure in Enugu on Thursday during the passing-out ceremony of 2017 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 corps members in the state.
The state government recently increased allowances of medical and paramedical corps members serving in the rural areas from N3, 800 to N30, 000.
The governor, who was represented at the event by the Special Assistant on Special Duties, Mr Uwakwe Azikiwe, said the gesture would soon be extended to the rest of the corps members.
“Recently, the state government upgraded the allowance of medical and paramedical personnel and very soon this gesture will be extended to other corps members in the state.

“As a responsible government, we will make sure that your state allowances will continue to be paid as and when due,” he said.
Ugwuanyi urged the out-gone corps members to make good use of the skills they learnt during the service year as a veritable option for self employment in the face of white collar job.

“You are stepping into another phase of life where you may discover that some of your preconceived ideas and dreams are not in tandem with present economic realities with regard to job opportunities.

“It is now time to use the lessons learnt from this exposure to make the right decisions for your future,” he said.
Ugwuanyi called on them to remain resolute and confident in their ability to decent living from genuine and honest endeavours.
Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Alhaji Ahmed Ikaka, commended the state government for organising a befitting passing out parade for the corps members.
Ikaka said that the corps members had commenced their service year on May 23, 2017, adding that their performances were satisfactory.
He, however, said that four of the corps members absconded from the service and would be re-mobilised to start the service afresh whenever they resurfaced.
He also noted that six corps members whose performances were exceptional were honoured with the state award.
“With heavy heart, I wish you to inform you that we lost two corps members to death who are supposed to be passing out today.

“I wish to acknowledge with gratitude the unwavering support and assistance the scheme enjoys in the state and as humans, we plead that you should not be tired of our ceaseless requests,” he said.
Ikaka also commended the local government areas of the state, traditional rulers and employers for their contributions to the success of the scheme in the state.

“Finally to my outgoing corps members, I congratulate you on your great achievements in rendering your services to the people of the state.

“As you move ahead to assume greater responsibilities, do not forget the positive experiences acquired during your service and stay in Enugu State,” Ikaka said.
The last time an elaborate passing out parade was organised for corps members was in November 2015.

Arsenal reached the last four of the Europa League as they scored twice late on to snatch a 2-2 second-leg draw against CSKA Moscow.
Goals from Danny Welbeck and Aaron Ramsey helped Arsenal secure passage into the semi-finals of the Europa League with a 2-2 draw against CSKA Moscow in Thursday’s quarter-final second leg.

Fedor Chalov and Kirill Nababkin struck in the opening 50 minutes to threaten a dramatic turnaround in the tie, but Welbeck and Ramsey scored in the final quarter of an hour to seal a 6-3 aggregate victory.

In a week that has seen Roma shock Barcelona and Juventus almost beat Real Madrid in remarkable Champions League quarter-final matches, much of the pre-match talk in Russia focused on the need for Arsenal to put in a professional performance to defend their 4-1 first-leg advantage.

They were punished for slack defending in each half through Chalov and Nababkin, though, as Viktor Goncharenko’s side showed signs they would punish the Gunners’ complacency and snatch a spot in the last four.

But Welbeck, starting wide on the left in place of the injured Henrikh Mkhitaryan, started and finished Arsenal’s first particularly slick move before Ramsey netted on the counter-attack deep into injury time.

CSKA looked unlikely to threaten the latest European comeback in a tepid first half-hour, with the best of the early opportunities falling to Alexandre Lacazette, who was denied by a good block from Aleksei Berezutski.

The home side were dealt a blow when the creative Alan Dzagoev was forced off with injury 38 minutes in, but they were given some hope in the tie barely 90 seconds later.

The visitors responded with a spell of possession, but Mohamed Elneny’s headed finish was correctly ruled out for offside at the end of one of their few promising attacking moves by that stage.

Wenger brought on Calum Chambers for the ineffective Jack Wilshere in a bid to strengthen his side’s defensive set-up, but more lacklustre work in their own box allowed 38-year-old Sergei Ignashevich to volley inches wide of the left-hand post.

However, just as CSKA threatened again, they were stunned by a brilliant piece of play from Welbeck. The England forward spun into space down the left, found Elneny and latched on to the Egyptian’s superb throughball before curling a shot past Igor Akinfeev.

The goal quietened the atmosphere at the CSKA Arena and Arsenal saw out the closing minutes with ease.

Akinfeev denied Welbeck a second with a fine save, and Ramsey dispatched a good finish with practically the last kick of the game after Elneny played him into clear space on the break.

The Premier League side must now await their fate in Friday’s semi-final draw in Nyon, as they aim to keep their challenge for the trophy, and an automatic spot in next season’s Champions League group stage, alive.

The shocking revelation Big Brother Naija housemate, Cee-C made yesterday in a conversation with her fellow housemates, has yet sparked another controversy and her family has responded swiftly to the video which showed her stating how she caused her best friend’s death.

Cee-C’s sister, Vanessa who reacted to the video on her behalf also addressed rumours of the reality TV show star failing Law school twice, her fake WAEC scandal and other scandals her sister has gotten into since she was unveiled as a housemate of the show.

According to her, the viral video of Cee-C disclosing how she caused her best friend’s death, which is making rounds on the internet is an inhumane act, as she also called out other housemates who joined the bandwagon in the calumny.

Here’s what she wrote;

“There’s a thin line between playing a game and being wicked. We understand that in a game you will try to put yourself in an advantage and the opponent in a disadvantage. But every game has its rules and conscience and ethics demands that we play by this rule.
But this current Big Brother Nigeria has been wrought with so many inhumane acts that gets me wondering. How can a group of people sit down, wake up every morning just to ruin a person’s personality?

First, it was the rumor that Cee-C failed law school twice. BUT THAT WAS ALL A LIE. When faced with burden of proof, all of them ran to their mother’s hut. We let that slide.
Then next was a fake WAEC result that went around, obviously done by a nose-sniffing amateur. A lot of people believed that but it was TOTAL LIES. The picture they used was obviously taken from her Facebook profile. Even a toddler could pick out the irregularities. We let that slide too.
Then there has been lots of other attack on tarnishing her image.
Even Instagram accounts of fellow housemates have joined the bandwagon in the calumny.
But today’s post by is the straw that has broken the carmel’s back. They have tactfully misrepresented Cee-C’s conversation with few housemates to further tarnish her image. Why these bloggers want to ruin Cee-C’s reputation, I’m yet to understand why.
In the entire conversation where they were discussing about the power of words, she recounted where she wished a relationship that was threatening her friendship would end. But unfortunately the friend passed away 2months later which she cried profusely about.

This won’t be the first time anyone had wished they had good thoughts of a person if they knew the their lives were going to be short.
But what do we see? Cynthia Nwadiora is made a villain by splicing the video to suit your campaign of calumny. Because you know that showing the entire statement will not favor your campaign. In what society has it become accepted that thoughts kills? Even in metaphysics, it’s still a debate.

Let’s assume thoughts kill, what is the relationship between wishing a relationship ends and death?
I’ve tried as much as possible to be civil in this game. I’ve gone high when others have gone low. Even the vilest amongst us have picked on us but I’ve done it clean. People have called us all sorts of name, but I assumed it’s what comes with the terrain. Because I believe that 85 days is not worth ruining ourselves.
But this is it. I’m going to take any necessary action to clear my sister’s name. You can’t accuse her, sway the minds of people against her and sit in your home comfortably while I fear daily for my sister’s and family’s safety.

And any other tag team blogger carrying this falsehood, please desist.

Aminu Atiku, son of a former Vice-President, Abubakar Atiku, on Thursday took the battle of his children’s custody against his ex-wife, Fatima Bolori, to an Igbosere High Court in Lagos.

Aminu asked the court to upturn a magistrates’ court’s decision which awarded the custody of his two children to Fatima as well as a N250,000 monthly upkeep.

He told Justice Kazeem Alogba that the lower court disregarded his constitutional right of fair hearing before granting judgment in Fatima’s favour.

A magistrate court in Tinubu on Lagos Island had on January 10 awarded full custody of the ex-couple’s daughter, Ameera, 11, and son, Aamir, 7, to Fatima.

The lower court held that Aminu failed to file a response to Fatima’s application for the children’s custody.

But Aminu, through his counsel, Oyinkan Badejo, filed an application to the high court seeking leave to appeal the lower court’s judgment and another application for a stay of further execution of its terms.

Justice Alogba granted Aminu leave to appeal the lower court’s judgment. Further hearing was adjourned until May 17 and June 14.
