The presidency says it has proof to back up its claims that Former president Goodluck Jonathan withdrew N100 billion from the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, few weeks to the 2015 general election which he lost to President Buhari.

Recall that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, at a recent function in Abuja, alleged that the former president’s admiistration, withdrew N100 billion from the CBN which they ”essentially shared” to some persons, weeks before the election.

A source in the presidency who spoke to Vanguard, said there are documents to back up this claims which has been denied by the former president’s media aide, Reno Omokri.

The presidential source told Vanguard that the former National Security Adviser, NSA personally supervised the physical transfer of the money from the CBN vaults to the private residence of the former President.

“In one particular instance over N70 billion was released in parts from the national treasury between January 8 and February 25, 2015. The over $289M which was also referenced last week by the Vice President is said to be included in this particular series of illegal transactions. Besides, that in another illegal disbursement, the minutes of the Central Bank board meeting of 25th August 2014 indicated the board’s okay of another N60B requested by the former President and released later by the Central Bank.”

The source stressed that the money released by the CBN was not tied to any project being executed by the Jonathan administration. The source said the money was meant and disbursed purely for campaign purposes, through the office of the then NSA and the SSS leadership at the time. He said that N60 billion that was okayed by the CBN on August 25, 2014 was said to have been shared between the two security agencies thus: N40B went to the NSA while N20 billion was released to the State Security Services (SSS).

“While some of these newly emerging fund disbursements have been traced to the former NSA, there are indications that some of the funds are unconnected to the ongoing Defence contract trials of the former NSA,while some might,” he said.

Recall that Osinbajo, in a recent speech, had alleged that weeks to the 2015 election under the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan about N100B was released and embezzled. He also disclosed that about $289m was disbursed illegally about the same time. The new discovery revealed that the $289m mentioned by the Vice President was released on February 25, 2015 Details of the deal shows that documents including cash vouchers indicate that $289,202,382 was released in cash to the NIA by the Central Bank of Nigeria from the Joint Venture (JV) Cash Call Account No. 000-0000-11658-366 of the NNPC/NAPIMS with JP Morgan Chase Bank, New York, USA.

The federal government has disclosed that it has recovered over N143.89 billion through the implementation of the whistleblower policy.

According to TheCable, the disclosure was contained in a report issued by the presidential initiative on continuous audit (PICA).

According to the report, the government had successfully recovered N7.8 billion, $378 million and £27,800.

In the report, it is understood that since the policy was introduced in 2016 to fight financial crimes and corruption, PICA has received 8,373 tips.

Of that number, 1,231 tips were said to have been on financial crimes.

The report said the federal government was able to investigate 791 cases out of which it said 534 were completed.

It also showed the federal government had also been able to save N208bn through the payroll audit of its ministries department and agencies (MDAs).

According to the report, N97.94 billion was saved in 2016, while N110.46 billion was saved in 2017.

It said the saving was from the recovery of salaries paid to ex-diplomats, reduction in personnel costs of MDAs and reduction in non-regular allowances of the armed forces, para-military agencies and health institutions.

Antoine Griezmanm has revealed he will enjoy the prospect of playing with Pogba everyday, but is not intent on a move to Manchester United.

The Atletico Madrid man has been linked with a move to Barcelona, and the France international is keen to make a decision before the World Cup.

“My future will be decided before the World Cup, I want to go to Russia with a clear mind, I think that’s what everybody wants, it’s not so much the question of where I’ll play, which may be boring, but about having the peace of mind if I’m still in one place or another,” he said.

“I’ve told my sister that, whether I stay or not, I’ll have to decide before (in reference to the World Cup).”

“If we could have this every day,” Pogba said on Canal+ as the pair interviewed each other.

Griezmann responded: “It would be nice.

“But beware, that doesn’t mean I want to go to Manchester United.”

Nigeria gaffer, Gernot Rohr has hailed the Super Eagles team, but insists they must keep working hard.

Super Eagles beat highly rated Poland 1-0 away from home, to follow up their 4-2 win against Argentina.

Rohr has warned against riding that wave, and has charged his men to keep working hard for the World Cup.

“We’ve seen a lot of good things and some things we must work on before the World Cup in Russia,” Rohr was quoted as saying on BBC Sport.

“Friendly matches provide a great opportunity to see everything about your team.

“It is not really the same as a World Cup game. Our preparation is still a work in progress to be ready.

“We know winning friendly matches could give us false hope but we want to keep working hard.”

Manchester United midfielder Tosin Kehinde seems to have chosen to represent the Nigeria national team.

Tosin Kehinde, 19, was born in Lagos but is eligible to play for England. However, Kehinde was photographed shaking hands with Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr ahead of their London friendly with Serbia on Tuesday night.

Kehinde expressed his gratitude to his Nigerian supporters last month and felt confident he was close to making his United senior debut.

“It feels good to have that kind of support back home,” he said. “I’ve come close on occasion. All I need to do is continue to work hard.

“Of course I’d be elated to play at the World Cup. It’s every footballers dream. Playing at any level for Nigeria would bring me pride. But I believe in myself enough to know I can bring something great to the Super Eagles first team.”

Kehinde trained with the United first-team earlier this season and has started 15 times for the Under-23s in the Premier League 2. His strike at Chelsea in September was nominated for the club’s goal of the month competition.

Barcelona will meet representatives from Atletico Madrid in the next few days to discuss the possibility of signing Antoine Griezmann this summer, according to various reports

Barcelona are believed to have moved above Manchester United in the race for his signature and Sport reports that the Catalan giants are keen to push through a move as soon as possible.

Club officials will meet with Atletico Madrid this week to thrash out terms, with both Barca and Griezmann eager to complete negotiations before the start of the World Cup in June.

Barcelona are even understood to be willing to pay more than Griezmann’s €100m (£87.4m) release clause to ensure that the deal goes through quickly and smoothly.

Brendan Rodgers has claimed that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp would face more questions over his managerial ability if he was British.

However, the Northern Irishman has rejected suggestions that his side were a one-man team, and believes that being British brings with it more criticism when a team is performing well.

“People said, ‘Well, he had Luis Suarez’. I thought that was very discourteous, mainly to the rest of the players, because we had created a team and we had one team and it had one brain,” Rodgers told The Mail.

“Luis was the focal point of it but he will tell you himself that he couldn’t have done that without the adjustments of the others.

“If you equate what was said about me with what might be said about a foreign coach, then as an example Mauricio Pochettino has done a great job at Tottenham but they probably wouldn’t say, ‘It’s down to Harry Kane’. And it is the same with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool with the contribution of Mo Salah. But for a British coach, there always has to be a catch.”

Antoine Griezmann was quick to quell suggestions he wants to join Manchester United in an interview with France teammate Paul Pogba on Sunday night.

Antoine Griezmann and Paul Pogba, who are currently together on international duty, were filmed interviewing each other by Canal Football Club at the French national team’s Clairefontaine base last week.

The interview was televised and a clip was uploaded onto Twitter of a brief exchange between the pair where Pogba expresses his wish to play more regularly with Griezmann.

“If we could have this every day,” Pogba began before Griezmann responded.

“That would be beautiful to play alongside you and win trophies,” the Atletico Madrid forward said. Mindful of his remark, Griezmann then added: “But be careful! That doesn’t mean I want to go to Manchester United.”

Former Germany and Bayern Munich captain Lothar Matthaus has insisted that Liverpool are capable of winning the Champions League this season.

Liverpool are the leading scorers in this season’s competition, but have been drawn against Manchester City in the quarter-finals and will need to pull off an upset against Pep Guardiola’s side if they are to reach the last four.

City have dominated domestically this season, but Liverpool are the only team to have beaten them in the Premier League and Matthaus believes that manager Jurgen Klopp is capable of masterminding another victory before launching a title challenge next term.

“Maybe City has more money but I know the mentality of Klopp, I know the mentality of his team. They work very hard. Liverpool has the mentality and an atmosphere in the ground that is similar to Dortmund. He is a powerful coach. He can get people to take to him – the players and the fans. He has to find one or two more players, especially in the defence to be better in the competition,” Matthaus told reporters.

“Like Guardiola in his first season he had a very good offence then he invested a lot of money in the defence, and you see the difference now – they are 15 or 16 points ahead of Man United. That is a lot. That is the reason [Guardiola] bought many players in the defence, they are much better now. City are maybe one step higher than all the other teams in England at the moment but for sure other teams will invest and find the right players.

“I know Jurgen Klopp knows exactly which player he needs. Some people were shaking their heads at £75m for a defender (Virgil van Dijk) but this £75m at the end shows the defence is a lot better. He didn’t change his style too much. He is working very hard, his team is always ready to fight for 90 minutes, they are in good condition, he works very hard. He finds the right players, especially in the offence, who can make the difference on the highest level.

“Liverpool is not afraid to play against Manchester City. They showed weeks ago how you can win against Manchester City. They have a good offence, they work better in the defence and this is the key to win titles. He has done a very good job. I was believing from the beginning that he and Liverpool have a very good relationship. You can see that in the good results, the good games and he has bought the right players. For me it is a team that can win the Champions League in two months in Kiev.”

Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij has reportedly opted to join Inter Milan.

Stefan de Vrij is available on a free transfer at the end of this season after confirming that he will not sign a new contract at Lazio , leading to a rush from a number of top European clubs for his signature.

Liverpool were understood to be keen to pair De Vrij with his international teammate Virgil van Dijk at the heart of their defence, whereas Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho had considered him as an option in his expected defensive overhaul.

Man City were also looking at the Dutchman as further cover for the injury-prone Vincent Kompany, while Barcelona were among the other clubs to have been credited with an interest.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport claims that De Vrij has instead decided to stay in Italy and will join Inter when his contract officially expires this summer.

Gazzetta claim the pursuit of De Vrij started a year ago and that Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has never lost sight of the defender.

De Vrij will earn just over £70,000 a week in Milan on a five-year contract that is yet to be signed.

MMM founder and Russian businessman Sergei Mavrodi, whose whose popular ponzi scheme deprived millions of Russians of their savings in the 1990s, has died of a heart attack, according to Russia media. The 62 years old man was rushed to the hospital late on March 25 with pain in his chest and died several hours later.

Mavrodi’s MMM financial pyramid was a typical Ponzi scheme in which earlier investors receive their profits from subsequent investors. Mavrodi promised returns of 20 percent to 75 percent a month, as well as lotteries and bonuses for investors.

As soon as the number of new clients stopped growing, the pyramid collapsed, causing huge financial losses for at least 10 million people, in some cases leaving them destitute.

In 1994, Mavrodi was elected as a lawmaker, a decision he later said was to ensure he received immunity from prosecution. In 1996, he lost his parliamentary mandate. In 2007, a Moscow court found him guilty of financial fraud and sentenced him to 4 1/2 years in a penal colony.

In 2011, Mavrodi launched another pyramid scheme called MMM-2011, calling on investors to purchase so-called Mavro currency units in a bid to get rid of the “unfair” financial system. Some 15 months later, Mavrodi halted the project.

From 2011-16, Mavrodi launched Ponzi schemes under the MMM brand in India, China, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria and lots of people lost their money. In many of those countries, Mavrodi’s operations were subsequently shut down or suspended.
